ACCORD
A combination of various ingredients which blend to produce a new fragrance impression.
The number of ingredients in an accord may vary from two to several hundred. Both
simple and complex accords may be used within the same fragrance.
Note
A single scent from one fragrance essence.
Top Note
The top note is the first impression which captures our attention when we smell
fragrance.
Middle Note
After a few minutes on the skin, the top note softens and we perceive the middle
note-also called the “mid note” or “heart” of the fragrance.
Base Note
After approximately 30 minutes on the skin, we perceive the base note or background
of the fragrance-also called the “dry down”. The base note is what remains for several
hours.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FRAGRANCE CONCENTRATIONS
Perfume/Parfum
Contains the highest form of fragrance oil. It is rich, full bodied fragrance lasts
for hours.
Eau De Parfum
Lighter than a perfume but more concentrated than an Eau de Toilette. Captures the
essence of a perfume in a lighter, less concentrated but still long-lasting form
(for White Linen only, the Eau de Parfum is called “parfum”)
Eau De Toilette
Less concentrated than an Eau de Parfum.
Summer Fragrance
Lighter, refreshing version of Eau de Toilette.
